"The Lowly Things"

“God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him. It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: ‘Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.’ ”
–1 Corinthians 1:28-31

First and foremost, you need to know, that I am a Christ-follower who desires to passionately pursue His will for my life. All things I invest time in are in an effort to further His name and glory. I am nothing without Him and joyously, thankfully, and humbly live to exalt Him. I serve a living God who has such an amazing, pursuing love for me that He gave His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, so that He could justify His love for me, save me, and allow me to graciously be in right relationship to Him. If you don't know this God, I'd love to talk with you more about Him!

This is the verse the Lord gave to me for reMERbish. He is the ultimate "refurbisher" and "repurposer"!!! He has chosen "the lowly, despised things of this world" to display His glory through so that we can do nothing but point the glory back to Him for His enabling strength and power to accomplish His will in our lives. And this is not about Him being prideful or selfish (because in His perfect nature He cannot be)--He is the only one who deserves all glory because He is the only one who is all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving, all-merciful, and the list goes! And He is the only one that truly satisfies our deep desire for security and love (because He loves perfectly), so giving Him glory, draws us and others to Him, which is the ultimate best for us!

So, as I sand layers of age and neglect off of furniture and give them a new life and purpose, I am continually reminded of how God takes us, lowly and weak individuals, works on us by sanding off layers of sin and selfishness, and creates a new life IN us through His Holy Spirit to fulfill His ultimate purpose for putting us here on earth! And just like I work on each piece specifically, individually, and uniquely, He is a God who is intimately aquainted with us, and desires to daily minister to us in unqiue, personalized ways. As I create new pieces as well, I am reminded of His creativity, that imagined and made all that we see (and all that we can't see), and has imparted that creativity into us (whom He formed in His image).

As I work with these "lowly things," it is a beautiful picture of the work God is doing in me, and I pray is doing in you. May we all be reminded of His faithfulness, His strength, His character, and His pursuing love.
